Believe it or not, it’s actually been (slightly longer than) 20 years since the cult hit of Beyond Good & Evil first graced our consoles. In the intervening years, the game has been ported to countless platforms, including Xbox 360, and developers Ubisoft assure us that a new instalment in the franchise – Beyond Good & Evil 2 – is indeed coming. Sometime. For now, the next best thing is Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition, which is now available to celebrate such a momentous occasion.
All the Bells and Whistles
Now available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC platforms, Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition is a faithful remaster of the 2003 original, complete with up to 4k resolution, 60fps and other quality of life inclusions such as autosave and cross-save between platforms.
For the uninitiated, Beyond Good & Evil is an action-adventure with puzzle and platforming elements, set within the quirky planet of Hillys – full of anthropomorphic, talking animals, tons of bizarre enemies to take down and, most importantly, our protagonist Jade. Giving Lara a run for her money, Jade is a dab-hand with her staff, and you can learn more about her origin in the game itself.
Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition comes with an in-game treasure hunt of sorts, in which you can find cosmetic items to teach both new and returning players of Jade’s backstory.
Throw in the draw of new Achievements to unlock, a Speedrun mode guaranteed to get a certain proportion of the community salivating, and of course the enhanced graphics, controls and audio that befit any remaster – Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition is the real deal.
