Octopath Traveler lands on Game Pass and Xbox

It’s taken a long old while for Octopath Traveler II to make its way over to our Xbox and Game Pass shores – well over a year on from the original release, in fact, but aren’t we glad it has.

We were huge fans of the original Octopath Traveler – it laid new ground for JRPGs, with its distinct visual style and rich lore. Here’s to hoping that the sequel will do the same!

A New Era

Available now on Xbox platforms (and coming to Xbox Game Pass!), this release follows on from a 2023 release onto PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Octopath Traveler II sees us reunited with the familiar Paper Mario-esque visual style and crunchy turn-based combat. This time around, we Octopath travel to the world of Solistia, joining eight new explorers as they carve out their own adventure. Along the way, you’ll meet a bunch of interesting characters to talk to, as you flesh out your knowledge of the deep and intricate world you find yourself in.

Each of the eight travelers has their own unique abilities and moves to deploy in turn-based combat. Furthermore, each hero also has distinct Path Actions, which will ensure that combat, exploration and item obtaining all differs depending on whom you control at any one time.

Returning players will also welcome the inclusion of the Break and Boost combat system from the original title, as well as look forward to new systems in battles.

Key Features

  • Begin your adventure as one of eight new travelers, each with their own origins, motivations, and unique skills.
  • The series’ HD-2D graphics, a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG, have reached even greater heights.
  • The story takes place in Solistia, where diverse cultures thrive from east to west and the industries of the new era flourish. You can sail the seas and explore every corner of a world that changes from day to night.
  • Each traveler has a unique set of Path Actions they can use to battle townspeople, obtain items, take others along in their travels, and more. Where will you go? What will you do? Every path is yours to take.
  • Familiar mechanics from the original game have been preserved, like the freedom to develop your travelers’ jobs and skills, as well as the Break and Boost system that made battles so exhilarating. New mechanics have also been added.

Brand-New Bundles!

If you are looking to pick up Octopath Traveler II on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, remember that the game can be picked up for free for all Game Pass subscribers.

Alternatively, you can find it on the Xbox Store for £49.99. What’s more, Square Enix have also bundled together both Octopath Traveler titles into one neat package, in the form of the Octopath Traveler + Octopath Traveler II Bundle. You can find that on the Xbox Store for £59.99.

Both games and the bundle are available on PS5, PS4, Switch and PC too.
