Let’s get one thing straight, out of the blocks. Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game is, as far as we can tell, not about the boring bat-and-ball sport popular the world over. No, instead this cartoony JRPG is an action-packed adventure with chaotic turn-based combat and a hilarious story. Now tell us, which of those sounds more interesting?!
Mystery Abound
Coming later this year to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC platforms, Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game comes to us from PM Studios and Studio Kumiho.
This is the latter’s second title after competitive arena game A Sound Plan, from 2019. This year’s release promises adventure, mystery and laughs, as you accompany Jae and his merry bunch of friends on a journey across the world of Yimmelia. This moon is rumoured to grant any wish that one can dream up, and is home to some truly beautiful environments that you will traverse through.
Gameplay-wise, and this is very much a Final Fantasy-esque turn-based RPG, however visually we would place Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game with the likes of South Park: The Stick of Truth and the sequel South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Expect to be ensuring the timing of your moves is spot on, and using powerful combos.
