Beat ‘Em Up or Blast Off? Antstream Arcade’s New Additions Offer Retro Choice

-

Looking to embrace the nostalgia and memories of some old-time SNES and Atari gaming? Antstream have your back with the latest additions to their Arcade.

Antstream Arcade is – in our opinion – the finest retro library of gaming classics you can imagine. Full of games that have us harking back to the finer times of the gaming scene, it provides the opportunity to get involved in some brilliant action, pushed by nostalgia.

As a library, Antstream Arcade continues to evolve too, and with that in mind come a couple of new entries this week – Stone Protectors (a SNES classic) and th Atari 2600 space combat fun of Solaris.

Stone Protectors

Stone Protectors from the early 1990s consisted of an animated series, action figures and a video game, as the latter originally launched for SNES in 1994. The Megadrive version officially released in 2022, as Piko Interactive acquired the rights.

The story for Stone Protectors revolves around the members of a rock band who found some magical stones that not only allowed them to play music well and gain special powers, but also put them at odds with a reptilian alien called Zok.

And as you would probably expect, in-game, players punch, kick, grab and throw their way through ten levels of beat ’em up action, completing one area before moving on to the next stage.

With objects to smash, weapons to pick up and use, crystals to collect and a cast of zany characters, Stone Protectors should well be seen as instant classic gaming fun.

Solaris

Solaris originally launched for the Atari 2600 back in 1986.

A space combat affair, players go searching for the planet Solaris by exploring quadrants of the galaxy and fighting aliens known as Zylons. Using their galactic scanner, you’ll be able to see where all points of interest are, from enemy fleets to planets where refuelling is possible.

From there it’s all about entering systems with an enemy presence, trying to eradicate the Zylon threat before moving on. Wormholes and corridors will also have to be navigated if you ever hope to find Solaris and reach the ending.

This one is regarded as one of the best games for the Atari 2600. Solaris is both visually impressive and has a depth of gameplay previously unseen. In fact, it’s a game that pushed the Atari 2600 to the limit of its capabilities.

Get involved

Further to these two new games is an additional challenge. Should you be working your way through Zombies Ate My Neighbor on SNES, then the Neighborhood Watch challenge kicks off this week.

“A cartoon tie-in beat ’em up with a troll-like rock band and exploring the vast expanse of space while fighting aliens. These are two very different and very exciting new titles for Antstream this week. As the already massive library of games at Antstream grows, the variety of different experiences for the players also grows, making Antstream the number one destination for retro streaming, anytime, anywhere.” – Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream.

For access to everything Antstream Arcade, then hit up the Xbox Store and get playing on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S – either through a 12-month sub or full lifetime of access. It’s also on PC.

Let us know which of these Antstream additions you’ll be playing. Will it be Solaris or Stone Protectors? Or both, perhaps?
